Chapter 41: Choosing Me
Last year was one of the most challenging chapters of my life. For a multitude of reasons. On top of that, I was in a deep depression, feeling completely disconnected from myself, and struggling with my health—both mentally and physically. I had gained nearly 40 pounds, and every time I looked in the mirror, I barely recognized the person staring back at me.
Then, something changed.
Two months after my 40th birthday, I made the decision to take care of ME. As moms, we always put ourselves last. We pour every ounce of our energy into our families, our work, and everyone around us—until one day, we realize we’ve completely neglected our own well-being. But the truth is, you can’t be a good mom and wife if you’re in a downward depression. I was trying to give my family the best of me, but I had nothing left to give. That’s when I knew something had to change.
My Journey to Feeling Like Myself Again
Before I go any further, I want to make it clear that I’m not here to promote any kind of medication. I’m simply sharing my experience—what worked for me, what helped me break free from the cycle I was trapped in.
On May 25th 2024, I decided to try semaglutide. ( PLEASE NO JUDGEMENT) For years, I had followed the “eat clean and exercise” routine. I had lost weight before through hard work and discipline, but this time was different. My depression had drained me to the point where I couldn’t even bring myself to step foot in the gym. I knew I needed an extra push to get back on track, so I took that step.
And I’m so glad I did.
The Results & The Shift in My Mindset
By November 23rd, I had completed my last treatment and lost a total of 43 pounds. I went from 183 lbs to my goal weight of 140 lbs. More than just the number on the scale, what truly amazed me was how much my mental health improved along the way.
When I reached my goal, I finally felt like myself again. I had the energy and motivation to take care of my body—not just to lose weight, but to feel strong, confident, and happy. Now, I make it a priority to get to the gym 4-5 days a week because it keeps me grounded, focused, and feeling my best.
Why This Journey Mattered
This wasn’t just about weight loss. This was about reclaiming my happiness, my confidence, and my love for life. I made the choice to prioritize myself, and that decision changed everything.
And naturally, I had to document my transition. As a photographer, I know how important it is for women to celebrate themselves—to step in front of the camera, not just for their families, but for themselves. We deserve to see our beauty, strength, and resilience reflected back at us.
That’s why self-love isn’t just about how we feel—it’s about how we see ourselves. Documenting our journeys through photography is one of the most powerful ways to honor our growth. It’s a reminder that we are strong, that we are evolving, and that we are worth being seen.
So if you’re on your own journey of self-care, healing, or rediscovery—capture it. You deserve to look back and see just how far you’ve come.
Here’s to Chapter 41. The year I chose ME and learn to put ME first!
